Author gets his hands on the Prizm detectors from Whites.
I stopped by the Desert Outfitters shop in Las Vegas, Nevada the other day and had a chance to look over the newest Whites metal detector. After reviewing the specifications and instructions I was quite impressed, especially the three different models of the new “Prizm” and their retail prices. They retail from $245.95, 349.95 and $449.95. The top model covers many features that you might only find in much higher priced competitors detectors. It’s two exclusive features. First, The Smart Notch allows you to check your unknown find by just pushing a pad; nails, foil and tabs are in or out depending on your discrimination setting. The second feature is the Tone I.D. Three distinctly different audio tones instantly cue you to the target’s desirability: LOW signals nails and iron, MEDIUM alerts for rings and jewelry, and HIGH indicates coins.
The three models have: Target I.D. It’s display shows I.D. of target as you hunt can hear or see targets. It has a 5-Range Discrimination , adjusts so you pick what you want to see and hear. Adjustable Sensitivity maximized detection depth in varying grounds.
PinPoint/All-Metal Mode makes locating your target a snap. Just push the pad!
8-inch waterproof search coil. Rugged, water resistant control box. The box also has a plug for using earphones. Weight, just 2.5 pounds. It has Low Battery Alert, powered by 2.9 volt batteries, which are included.
Instruction Video disk is furnished so you can start learning about its settings, etc. prior to working the turf.
The Prizm, IV and III feature: Depth Reading as ;you hunt. Once you’ve detected a good target, the screen shows you how deep to dig. No extra steps, it’s automatically on the screen!
The brochure also listed three accessories: Prixm PeeWee lower detector Rod makes the Prizm usable by even small children (Two lengths: 4” and 9”). They also list a 950 Search Coil, 9-1/2” wide, which would increase your depth by 30% as well as the wider search pattern would cover more ground.

I have used whites detectors since prox. 1970’s, in fact I still own my Whites 66-TR, Whites XLT and a White Goldmaster II as well as my old Whites P-1 underwater detector. I’m now in my mid 70’s and still searching. My diggins have served me well.
